A belated sanction for abroad trip
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI, JUNE 28. An overseas trip approved for a `non-existent'
official and a councillor who came in carrying the Chief
Minister, Ms. Jayalalithaa's portrait provided some lighter
moments at the Chennai Corporation Council on Thursday.
The Deputy Commissioner (Revenue and Finance) was to have
travelled to Australia on official work. But the seat is now
vacant after Dr. Senthil Kumar, the DC (R & F), was transferred
to the public department. No new officer has been appointed to
the post.
His trip has been approved now, after the council session adopted
the tabled resolutions. Officials point out that if the approval
would have came in the last meet, on June 20, it could have been
of some use, as the tour of the official holding charge of the
post of DC (R & F) would have begun on June 26.
The AIADMK councillor, Mr. Subas Chandra Bose, was seen carrying
a portrait of Ms. Jayalalithaa into the council. He was seen
wildly gesticulating, but as the session ended in a mere five
minutes, he was seen carrying the same back.
