Appreciable stage presence
FLUIDITY, FLUENCY and naturalness marked the Bharatanatyam
recital of Swetha Gopalan, held at the Music Academy mini hall
recently, for Kartik Fine Arts Dance Festival 2001. The danseuse
commenced her programme with an invocatory `Pushpanjali' in
`Nattai' followed by a slokam and Vasantha `Alarippu' in misra
chapu. The entire programme was in praise of Lord Vishnu. Swetha,
then presented a unique number ``Trikala Tritala Suladi'' i.e. on
three talas misrachapu, rupakam and ata tala. She then presented
the important number of the evening, the varnam - ``Thoomasayaga
Vidhura Avamanava Thurathi'' in Karnataka Kapi set to rupakam, a
composition of Maharaja Swati Tirunal. Swetha danced with total
involvement, dedication and naturalness. The rendering of the
next song ``Charanam Charanam Yendraney'' in Sourashtram, set to
misra chapu portraying Lanka's King Ravaneswaran's brother
Vibheeshana, surrendering to Rama, was done well.
