Of people & places
IN HER first ever show in Chennai, Priya Sunil brings her
paintings and drawings to view at the Vinyasa Art Gallery till
November 30, 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. An alumnus of the Faculty of Fine
Arts, Stella Maris College, she moved to Nepal after her marriage
and her works are mainly of people and places there. She is quite
at ease with watercolour, oils and pen and ink sketches.
The female devotees bathing in the river before going to worship
at the Pasupathinath temple, is a large work in academic style.
The landscape with a bridge and a man standing in front of an old
building, done with a palette knife, are very appealing. Priya
seems adept at handling the knife to her advantage. Some of her
other works in oil are of scenes from life, in which the figures
and elements of Nature are stylised. Bright colours bring a
kaleidoscopic effect.
Priya's watercolour portraits bring out the character of the
persons quite well. Priya's pen and ink drawings show that she
enjoys the medium. She has succeeded in bringing to life in a
monochromatic black or sepia tint, temples, houses, landscapes
and scenes of festivals.
