HYBRID wheat may soon become a reality in India, with the Directorate of Wheat Research (DWR), Karnal, claiming success in identifying three `potential' hybrid candidates conferring 10-15 per cent higher yields over the existing `best-check' varieties gr own in the country.

GRAIN exporters here are a worried lot. Demand for Indian wheat seems to have virtually dried up in the last few months with enquiries few and far between. Despite heavy subsidy, Indian wheat is still outpriced.
