KPCC president G. Parameshwara addressing a public meeting at Brahmavar in Udupi district on Saturday. Brahmavar (Udupi DT.): Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G. Parameshwara said on Saturday that the State Government would collapse in the next three months and there would be elections to the Legislative Assembly in six months. He was speaking at a public meeting organised here by the Congress as part of its campaign for the zilla and taluk panchayat elections. Dr. Parameshwara said that corruption and nepotism were the only achievements of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government in the past two-and-a-half years. The Union Government had released Rs. 1,600 crore when heavy rain caused massive destruction in parts of north Karnataka last year. But not a single house had been built for the affected people. Though the BJP Government did not have funds to implement welfare schemes, it was releasing crores of rupees for maths and temples, he alleged. Lack of morals in the BJP was best illustrated with the way in which it had dealt with Lokayukta N. Santosh Hegde. Bharatiya Janata Party president Nitin Gadkari, former Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani and Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa personally requested Mr. Hegde to withdraw his resignation. But as soon as Mr. Hegde began investigating the land scams, BJP leaders alleged that the Lokayukta was behaving as an Opposition leader. The Congress had given 50 per cent of its ticket to the youth for the zilla and taluk panchayat elections. This showed its commitment to youth and development, Dr. Parameshwara said. Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Motamma said that the BJP had promised to give rice for Rs. 2 a kg and uninterrupted power supply, but did not do so.
