GURGAON: The young AIFF XI team displayed a creditable performance to draw 1-1 with Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) in a second round match of the I-League football tournament at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium here on Wednesday. The draw helped both the sides register their first points. The energetic AIFF defence, comprising promising players like Abhishek Das and captain Raju Gaekwad, was able to withstand the pressure exerted by the ONGC attackers. ONGC had a solid chance to draw first blood in the 35th minute when Lalmun Puia shot wide after getting a cross from Babatunde. ONGC midfield looked rusty and its captain Jatin Bisht had to take the majority of the load. In fact, it was Bisht who laid the foundation for his team's lone goal. He sent a low and precise header to Opara on the right and the latter crossed it to an advancing Babatunde to put it past AIFF custodian Jagroop Singh in the 45th minute. ONGC intensified its attack in the second half but was not able to extend its lead. The AIFF side was found wanting in coordination till a magical goal by Jeje in the 78th minute. Jeje, quick enough to make the most of a chance, drove the ball from around 18 yards. It hit the upright before deflecting into the net. — Principal Correspondent
