THE PROJECT:The amount raised from the charity walk will be utilised for Samarthanam's disabled-friendly residential school building at HSR Layout. BANGALORE: To commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled, in association with Amway India, has organised the Amway Bengaluru Walkathon 2010 on the theme ‘Walk for shelter' on December 4. Home Minister R. Ashok will flag off the walkathon at the Sri Kittur Rani Chennamma Stadium, Jayanagar 3rd Block, at 3 p.m. Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, G.K. Mahantesh, Samarthanam Trust's founder and managing trustee, said the walkathon aims to create awareness and sensitise the public on the issues of disability and promote social integration. He appealed to the public to register themselves and help the cause. He expected sizeable participation, including 2,000 people with disability. Mr. Mahantesh said the amount raised from the charity walk would be utilised for Samarthanam's disabled-friendly residential school building, at HSR Layout, which is expected to cost Rs. 8.25 crore. The walkathon brand ambassador, Kannada film actor Yash, spoke.
