Two power projects proposed

Srinivasam Energy Ltd makes presentation to Kiran

HYDERABAD: A private party, Srinivasam Energy Limited, has offered to set up two power projects in the State with a combined capacity of 1,620 MW at a total cost of Rs. 7,800 crore.

The company made a presentation to Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy proposing to set up a plant at Pentakota near Tuni in East Godavari district and another at Anantharam in Bhongir mandal of Nalgonda district. Immediately after Mr. Reddy occupied his chamber in the Secretariat on Wednesday, the managing director of Srinivasam Energy S. Somsekhar submitted proposals to establish a 1,320-MW thermal power station based on imported coal at Pentakota with an investment of Rs. 6,800 crore. It would be based on super critical technology. Besides, a gas-based 300-MW capacity power plant would be set up at Anantharam in Nalgonda at a cost of Rs 1,000 crore.

The e two projects were in line with the Centre's policy to encourage merchant power plants and power trading by private parties. The thermal station at Pentakota would use sea water for cooling purpose and the Visakhapatnam/ Kakinada ports to import coal. The combined cycle plant proposed at Anantharam would draw gas from Reliance pipeline and water from the Manjira.
