Youths from naxal-hit areas get tips on job generation

Staff Correspondent

DEHRA DUN: Activists at the Himalayan Environment Studies and Conservation Organisation (HESCO) here are busy exposing about 60 boys and girls from naxalism and militancy plagued States to basic post-harvest and rural energy technologies that could find them self-employment in their villages and identifying gaps between local resources and easy to use technologies to tap them judiciously.

“The initiative in collaboration with the Nehru Yuvak Kendra aims at reducing unemployment that was one of the main reasons behind rural youths taking to anti-national or illegal activities. We hope to empower several groups of well meaning youth with skills they could use to set examples of decent income generation and serve as motivators in their regions”, said Anil Joshi, director of HESCO.

The participants from Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland had shown much interest in tapping of solar, biomass and hydro energies for rural energy needs.
