Sandeep Unnikrishnan's parents visit NDA

Amruta Byatnal

Pune: As a cadet in the National Defence Academy, Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan had once said to his father, “Every Cadet in the NDA aspires to have his name enshrined in the Hut of Remembrance as a martyr.” His ‘aspiration' came true a little too fast, as he lost his life fighting the terrorists at Hotel Taj in Mumbai on November 26, 2008. “His memory, though, lives on in his alma mater, the NDA,” said K. Unnikrishnan, Sandeep's father, after visiting the Academy on Sunday. Mr. Unnikrishnan and Sandeep's mother Dhanalakshmi, laid the wreath in the Hut of Remembrance, as a tribute to their son and all the other ex-NDA cadets who lost their lives in the service of the nation. Major Sandeep's parents visited the NDA, as a part of their cycle rally, Naman Shaheedon Ka (Tribute to martyrs), which started in New Delhi, and will culminate in Mumbai on November 26. On Saturday, they participated in a panel discussion called ‘No More 26/11' organised by a city institute. The duo was welcomed by the NDA Cadets on Sunday morning.

To honour Sandeep's brave act at the Taj Hotel two years back, his parents will stay in the hotel on November 26.
