Congress to chalk out strategy to break log-jam

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Ahead of Parliament reconvening on Monday, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and other senior party leaders met here on Sunday to chalk out a strategy on how to break the logjam in both the Houses of Parliament that have remained paralysed over the past two weeks over an adamant Opposition's demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the 2G spectrum issue.

The Congress Core group meeting was learnt to be grappling with the strategy to deal with the situation as Parliament resumes its sitting on Monday.

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Home Minister P. Chidambaram and Defence Minister A.K. Antony were among those who attended the high-level meeting. The meeting took place on a day when the BJP, which has launched an offensive against the Congress on the issue of corruption, is itself feeling cornered over Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, who is under pressure to quit following disclosure of an alleged scam in out of turn land allotment.

With the Congress and the BJP still adamant on their respective stands, all indications point to a stormy day ahead in Parliament on Monday .
