New Delhi: Coinciding with the visit of the US President Barack Obama, the O.P. Jindal Global Law School near here and Michigan Law School in the United States have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a Joint Centre for Global Corporate and Financial Law and Policy as well as opening the door for future cooperative efforts between the two schools.

The MoU, signed by Michigan School's Dean Evan Caminker and Prof. C. Raj Kumar, O.P. Jindal Global University's Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Jindal Global Law School, provides the framework for collaborative initiatives with faculty and student exchange programmes, teaching and research initiatives, conferences and publications and continuing legal education programmes between the schools. The Centre's Directors are: Michigan's Prof. Vikramaditya Khanna and JGLS Professors Vivek Pande, Charles Maddox and Ajay Goyal.

The areas of planned study include regulation of financial markets and corporate governance in the United States and India, and other jurisdictions. Key activities at the Centre will be research and legal policy analysis, facilitating development of collaborative research and teaching, and organising lectures, conferences and symposia.

Says Prof. Raj Kumar: “The collaboration between the University of Michigan and O.P. Jindal Global University is truly historic and in many ways reflects the strong commitment of both these institutions to promote global education across various disciplines.”
