Four killed and three injured in accident

TIRUMALA: In a ghastly road accident on Wednesday, four pilgrims including two children were killed and three others seriously injured, all belonging to a single family when a private truck laden with sand ran over them.

According to the Tirumala traffic police, the incident occurred when the speeding truck laden with sand ran over the family even while they were trying to cross to the other side of the road. All the four members who were killed on the spot were identified as Venkateswara Rao (30) Ramanamma (50) and two children Manikanta (6) and Durga (3). Meanwhile, the three other seriously injured were rushed to the TTD run Aswini hospital where they were administered first-aid and later shifted down to the Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences ( SVIMS) super speciality hospital for a better medical care. The family hailed from Amalapuram in East Godavari district.

Eyewitness report

Eye witnesses said the driver of the truck who lost control over the vehicle while proceeding towards the town after passing through the GNC tollgate had hit the road divider before crushing all the four members to death. The vehicle came to a halt after it hit two other electric poles on the road divider and a massive welcome arch erected by the TTD. On receiving the information the TTD Executive officer IYR Krishna Rao and Joint Executive Officer K. Bhaskar rushed to the spot. Mr. Krishna Rao said that the management would initiate immediate steps to ensure that an ex gratia of Rs.2 lakh each was paid to the members of all the four deceased by the Insurance agencies as per the agreement reached with them.
