Kidnapped Meghalaya official still untraced

SHILLONG: Five security teams have fanned out to trace a Meghalaya government official and his aide who were kidnapped by suspected Garo militants on Thursday night.

District Transport Officer of East Garo Hills R. Syngkon and the aide posted at his official residence at Williamnagar, the district headquarters, were kidnapped at gunpoint by militants of the Garo National Liberation Army. The rebels had earlier demanded Rs. 60 lakh from the officer.

The police have identified two hideouts, and the teams are combing these areas, Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi said. — PTI
