LDF releases list of candidates in Kannur

19 CPI(M) nominees to contest district panchayat elections


CPI candidates for Ulikkal, Malur and Azhikkal to be announced soon

LDF independent for Peringalam also to be named later


KANNUR: The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has announced the names of its candidates contesting the elections to the district panchayat, the block panchayats and the five municipalities.

The list of candidates for the district panchayat elections released here on Monday includes 19 Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidates: K.A. Sarala (Mayyil division), who is seen as the CPI(M)'s nominee for the post of president of the panchayat, K. Narayanan (Pappinissery), P. Rosa (Iritty), K. Raveendran (Pinarayi), P.P. Divya (Cherukunnu), E.P. Karunakaran (Karivellur), Sherly Joshi (Sreekantapuram), K. Sathyabhama (Mathamangalam), P.K. Shabareesh (Anjarakkandy), M.V. Rajeevan (Kadannappally), P.V. Rajeendranath (Panur), M. Kunhiraman (Kunhimangalam), K.P. Shajeera (Thillankery), K. Basheer (Elayavur), O. Rathi (Patyam), P. Gowri (Vengad), A.P. Sujatha (Kathirur), T. Krishnan (Peralassery) and T.V. Rugmini (Pariyaram).

Joseph Nellikkunnel of the Janata Dal (Secular), U. Babu Gopinath of the Congress(S) and Ramachandran Thilankery of the Nationalist Congress Party will contest from Naduvil, Pallikunnu and Peravur divisions, respectively.

The Communist Party of India (CPI) candidates contesting in Ulikkal, Malur and Azhikkal divisions are expected to be announced soon.

The independent candidate to be fielded by the LDF in the Peringalam division would also be announced later.

In the 42 seats in the Kannur municipal council, the CPI(M) will contest in 36, the CPI in three, the JD(S) in two and the Congress(S) in one.
