Coimbatore: Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology (MCET) defeated host Coimbatore Institute of Technology by six wickets to win the Anna University of Technology Zone-1 (Coimbatore) inter-collegiate cricket tournament at the CIT grounds recently. After bundling out the host for 94, the winner scored the required runs in a shade less than 23 overs and with six wickets to spare. The scores: Final: CIT 94 in 24.1 overs lost to MCET 95 for four in 22.3 overs. Semifinals: Dr. Mahalingam CET 159 for six in 25 overs bt SNS Tech 92 in 24.1 overs; CIT 115 in 25 overs bt PSG Tech 69 . Ashok slams century S. Thiagarajan three for 31). Taekwondo team P. Nivedithaa (Kumaraguru CT), D. Yamunashree (Chinmaya Vidhyalaya), P. Sathees Kannan (KG CAS), K.K. Madhurabaashini and K. Sijukumar (from Covai Amateur Taekwondo Association) will represent India in the first India Open international taekwondo championship to be held at the Swarnabharti indoor stadium in Visakhapatnam from September 22 to 24. About 2000 men and women from 48 countries are expected to take part in the three-day event, which is classified as the Grade-1 championship by the World Taekwondo Federation. Prakash hits 105 At Krishnagiri, S. Prakash struck a fine 105 as Ashok Leyland Cricket Club ‘A' posted a 41-run win over Smashers Cricket Club in the TNCA-KDCA first division league on Sunday. Lamba shines At Udhagamandalam, a fine all-round performance by Arjun Lamba (108 & three for 15) enabled The Lawrence School score a handsome 311-run win over Hebron School in the NDCA under-15 inter-school cricket tournament for the Azhar Hassan Memorial Rolling Trophy recently. The Lawrence School, Lovedale, dominated the under-18 class as well defeating an off-colour J.S.S Public School by a convincing 115-run margin. Jain College edged Arulanandar College 2-1 in a semifinal league encounter of the Khajamian Trophy inter-collegiate hockey tournament, organised by Jamal Mohammed College, on Monday.
