Mahalingam CET is champion

Coimbatore: Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology (MCET) defeated host Coimbatore Institute of Technology by six wickets to win the Anna University of Technology Zone-1 (Coimbatore) inter-collegiate cricket tournament at the CIT grounds recently.

After bundling out the host for 94, the winner scored the required runs in a shade less than 23 overs and with six wickets to spare.

The scores:

Final: CIT 94 in 24.1 overs lost to MCET 95 for four in 22.3 overs. Semifinals: Dr. Mahalingam CET 159 for six in 25 overs bt SNS Tech 92 in 24.1 overs; CIT 115 in 25 overs bt PSG Tech 69 .

Ashok slams century

S. Ashok hit 101 in Coimbatore Raiders Cricket Academy's seven-wicket win over Coimbatore Friends Cricket Club in the TNCA-CDCA third division league for the Servall Trophy at the PSG Medical College grounds on Sunday.

The scores:

Second division (Unidrive Line Trophy): Wings CC 118 in 44.5 overs (K. Sivakumar 41, Seetharam three for 14) bt Tirupur CC 99 in 22.5 overs (Natesh Kumar 40, P. Ayyappan five for 41, T. Rajasekar four for 16).

Third division (Servall Trophy): South India Manchester CC 192 in 41.3 overs (S. Rajadurai 53, K. Mohan Kumar 68, A. Hariharan three for 37) lost to Rainbow 1972 MMCC 93 for seven in 33.4 overs (G. Sathish Kumar 72, K. Mohan Kumar three for 41).

Suryabala CC 307 for nine in 50 overs (Kathirvelu 98, Saravanakumar 48, Sivaramakrishnan 30, R. Mithun five for 42) bt R.S. Puram CC 115 in 31.5 overs (Adithyan three for 18).

Coimbatore Friends CC 182 in 49.1 overs (C.R. Ananda Sankar 55, Vignesh Manikandan 47, K. Thiagu 37 not out) lost to Coimbatore Raiders CA 183 for three in 42.5 overs (S. Ashok 101, R. Thiagarajan three for 31).

Taekwondo team

P. Nivedithaa (Kumaraguru CT), D. Yamunashree (Chinmaya Vidhyalaya), P. Sathees Kannan (KG CAS), K.K. Madhurabaashini and K. Sijukumar (from Covai Amateur Taekwondo Association) will represent India in the first India Open international taekwondo championship to be held at the Swarnabharti indoor stadium in Visakhapatnam from September 22 to 24.

About 2000 men and women from 48 countries are expected to take part in the three-day event, which is classified as the Grade-1 championship by the World Taekwondo Federation.

Prakash hits 105

At Krishnagiri, S. Prakash struck a fine 105 as Ashok Leyland Cricket Club ‘A' posted a 41-run win over Smashers Cricket Club in the TNCA-KDCA first division league on Sunday.

The scores:

First division: Ashok Leyland CC ‘A' 277 for eight in 50 overs (S. Prakash 105, K. Sudhakar 59) bt Smashers CC 236 in 43.4 overs (K.T. Ranganath 93, R. Radhakrishnan 49).

Jaihind CC 175 in 43.3 overs (Koushik 41, T. Balasubramaniyam three for 14) bt Wills CC 161 in 37.1 overs (Arumugam 58, Sanjeevi five for 38).

Second division: Time Passers CC 148 in 25 overs (Elango 42) lost to Spontaneous Guys CC 149 for eight in 24.4 overs.

Ashok Leyland CC ‘B' 103 in 17.3 overs lost to TVS CC 104 for three in 15.1 overs.

Lamba shines

At Udhagamandalam, a fine all-round performance by Arjun Lamba (108 & three for 15) enabled The Lawrence School score a handsome 311-run win over Hebron School in the NDCA under-15 inter-school cricket tournament for the Azhar Hassan Memorial Rolling Trophy recently.

The Lawrence School, Lovedale, dominated the under-18 class as well defeating an off-colour J.S.S Public School by a convincing 115-run margin.

The scores: U-15 (Azhar Hassan MRT): The Lawrence School 346 (Arjun Lamba 108, Amar D. Gupta 78, Rohan Bhatt 39, Rishi Ghosh three for 44) bt Hebron School 35 (Arjun Lamba three for 15, R. Rajashekar three for 14).

U-18 (F.K. Irani Rolling Trophy): The Lawrence School 231 (Rohit Deswal 81, Nitin Kumar three for 44) bt J.S.S. Public School 116 .

At Tiruchi, D.B. Jain College edged Arulanandar College 2-1 in a semifinal league encounter of the Khajamian Trophy inter-collegiate hockey tournament, organised by Jamal Mohammed College, on Monday.

The results:

Semifinal league: D.B. Jain 2 (Saravanan, Dinesh Kumar) bt Arulanandar 1 (Gautham).

Jamal Mohammed 2 (Manivannan, Saravanan) bt American 1 (Sundaramahalingam).

Quarterfinals: Arulanandar 3 (Gautham, Kulandaijesu, Rajiv Gandhi) bt Union Christian College 1 (Jijith).
