BANGALORE: Building up to its participation in the Mantri-Karnataka Premier League, Godrej Mangalore United released its team anthem at a ceremony here on Wednesday night. The event also witnessed the induction of three players – winners of the franchise's ‘Talent Hunt' programme for cricketers drawn from Mangalore and neighbouring regions – into the side. Formally releasing the CD containing the audio and video tracks of the anthem, Gulihatti D. Shekhar, Minister for Textiles, Youth Services and Sports, lauded the KPL for its efforts to promote cricket in the hinterland. “Initiatives like these will help in the growth of the sport and development of local talent,” he said. The anthem draws inspiration from the culture of the coastal areas the Mangalore team represents. Commenting on this, B.M. Farookh, Managing Director of the Fiza Group, owner of the franchise, said it was part of an effort to build a large fan-base. Sandeep Bhandari, Nihal Ullal, and Sadiq – the three inductees – were handed their jerseys on the occasion. Brijesh Patel, Hon. Secretary of the KSCA, expressed his appreciation for the team's ‘Talent Hunt' programme. — Sports Reporter
