THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sixty lakh school students in the State, from standards I to XII, will be issued a unique identity number before March 2011 as part of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) initiative of the Central government. This will make Kerala the first State where students will be issued the ‘Aadhar' number. IT@School will coordinate the preparation of the necessary data for each student. The scheme will be piloted in two schools in October. Executive director of IT@School Anvar Sadath said here that the 12,000-plus schools in the State would be considered either as separate units or as clusters for the ‘Aadhaar' enrolment. IT@School will deploy its own school management system to collect necessary details from each student. Even though the ‘Aadhaar' scheme requires the name, gender, date of birth and the address as mandatory details, IT@School will collect other details including class name, admission number and the name of the local body concerned. From this database, the mandatory fields required for Aadhaar will be filtered to a separate software, provided by the UIDAI, a press note said. After registration, students will undergo a biometric scanning of ten fingers and the iris. Their photograph too will be taken and they will be given an enrolment number. Once this data is uploaded to the UIDAI's central server, the students will receive a 12-digit Aadhaaar number directly by post within 20 to 30 days. Schools can schedule class-wise enrolment of students so that maximum enrolment can be done daily.
