Union Sports Ministry clears payments
NEW DELHI: The Union Sports Ministry cleared payment of over a crore for the five elite tennis players, as part of the preparations for the Commonwealth Games, on Saturday.
It was announced that the money would be routed through the All India Tennis Association (AITA), which had prepared the documentation on behalf of the players, charting the tournaments that they had competed in the last two years along with their travel expenditure.
It was stated that the country's No.1 singles player, Somdev Devvarman would be paid Rs. 25.88 lakh, and for the rest it would be: Mahesh Bhupathi (19.62), Leander Paes (19.26), Rohan Bopanna (18.33) and Sania Mirza (17.52). — Special Correspondent
