THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: K.R. Sivakumar (AG TN) will meet team-mate S.S. Kannan in the men singles final of the South Zone inter-audit and accounts badminton tournament. In the semifinals on Wednesday, K.R. Sivakumar beat Charanjeeth Singh (AG AP) 21-10, 21-13 while S.S. Kannan got a walkover from Kamalkar Rao (SCR). The women's singles final will be between S. Saradambal (AG, Kerala) and N. Kamala (AG, Karnataka). In the semifinals, S.Saradambal beat A.R. Shanthi 21-5, 21-9 while Kamala beat Vasantha Premkumar 21-9, 21-9. The results: Semifinals: Men: K.R.Sivakumar (AG TN) bt Charanjeeth Singh (AG AP) 21-10, 21-13; S.S.Kannan (AG TN) w/o Kamalkar Rao (SCR). Sacred Heart PS wins Boys from Sacred Heart Public School (Thevara) and the girls from host Bhavan's Vidya Mandir won the Bhavan's inter-school basketball tournament at Elamakkara on Wednesday. Samson topscored with 14 points as Sacred Heart defeated host Bhavan's Elamakkara 38-34 and lifted its maiden boys' title at Elamakkara, while the Bhavan's girls beat Rajagiri Public School (Kalamassery) 36-11. Sacred Heart's Samson and Bhavan's Mariam Ann Thampy were adjudged as the tournament's best players in the boys' and girls' sections respectively. Don Bosco boys defeated the host Matha Nagar 42-38, while Christ girls beat Don Bosco 32-16. The results: Finals: Boys: Don Bosco SSS, Vaduthala bt Matha Nagar Public School, Kadavanthra 42-38. Girls: Christ Vidyanikethan, Irinjalakuda bt Don Bosco SSS, Vaduthala 32-16 . Sorab hits century State Bank of Travancore ‘A', powered by M.P. Sorab's hundred (131), took command against Pankajakasturi in the Thiruvananthapuram District ‘A' division cricket league at the Medical College ground on Wednesday. SBT ‘A' ended the day at 273 for three after dismissing Pankajakasturi for a paltry 72. Sony Cheruvathur (five for 27) and Santosh Karunakaran (three for 18) did the damage with the ball for SBT. The scores: Pankajakasturi 72 in 31.4 overs (Sony Cheruvathur five for 27, Santosh Karunakaran three for 18) v SBT ‘A' 273 for three in 38 overs (M.P.Sorab 131, V.Suresh 71, Ramakrishnan 38) . Chess tournament The Michael Jerard Master open chess tournament will be held at the Government LP School, Kottuvally, near North Paravur, on September 11 and 12.
