Mumbai: A sessions court here has issued transfer warrants against Fahim Ansari and Sabahuddin Ahmed, acquitted by the trial court in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack case. The duo is currently in police custody in Uttar Pradesh in connection with cases there. Senior police inspector Ramesh Mahale on Sunday told The Hindu over telephone that the warrants were issued on August 26. The court has directed that they be produced before it on September 23. “However, if they are already undergoing trials in U.P., authorities there may decide against sending them. The warrants have been issued merely to secure their presence, in case they get bail. A police man will serve the warrants to the U.P. police on Monday,” Mr. Mahale said. The production warrants against the two come after the Bombay High Court issued arrest warrants against them on August 12, after raising concerns about their availability for trial. The prosecution has gone in appeal against their acquittal in the 26/11 case. The High Court will fix the date for hearing on the appeal on Monday.
