Stage set for final
Chennai: The final of the V.P. Sathyan memorial football tournament between Tamil Nadu XI and ICF will be played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Saturday. The final initially scheduled for last Sunday, was postponed due to inclement weather. Both teams took a similar route to the final, with Tamil Nadu XI and ICF having to go through the uncertainties of a penalty shoot-out in the semifinal.
Tamil Nadu got the better of Andhra XI (5-4) after the score sheet read 1-1 at the end of regulation time, with A.R. Naidu of Andhra missing the target during the ensuing shootout.
ICF and Chennai Customs played out a goalless draw and V.P. Sathish, ICF's keeper, kept Sudhakar's spot kick out to take his team to the final, with a similar 5-4 score line.
