Double for Nirmala

Coimbatore: Nirmala College clinched both the weightlifting and power-lifting titles in the Bharathiar University inter-collegiate meet for women at the Bharathiar University here recently.

M. Uma Maheswari of Nirmala with a total lift of 90 kg emerged the strong woman of the year 2010-2011.

The results: Weightlifting: 1. Nirmala College 65 pts; 2. PKR College (Gobichettipalayam) 64.

Powerlifting: 1. Nirmala College 64 pts; 2. PKR College 60.

Strong woman: M. Uma Maheswari (Nirmala College) .

St. Hilda's lifts title

At Udhagamandalam, St. Hilda's School defeated Vikaasa School 33-4 and lifted the under-16 girls' title in the State regional level inter-school basketball tournament at the VMJ HSS in Madurai recently.

The team will now represent the Tamil Nadu region in the ASISC national level tournament at Kolkata from October 6 to 8.
