THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Host Thiruvananthapuram scored a stunning 2-0 win to shut out top-seeded Ernakulam and entered the girls' team final of the State sub-junior badminton championship at the Technopark Club here on Wednesday. However, the host failed to secure a place in the semifinals of the boys' event, losing 2-0 to Kozhikode in the quarterfinals. Ernakulam, Kannur and Pathanamthitta were the other teams to make the last four grade. Earlier, the silver medallist at the Summer Youth Olympics in Singapore, H.S. Prannoy was feted by the Thiruvananthapuram District Badminton Association, during the inaugural ceremony of the four-day event. The results: Boys: Team event (quarterfinals): Ernakulam bt Wayanad 2-0 (Aditya Prakash bt Sabith 21-10, 21-5; Aditya Prakash/M.R. Arjun bt Sabith/Akshay 21-5, 21-0). Kannur bt Idukki 2-0 (Nakul Mahesh bt Ashish Sunny 21-8, 21-12; Allen John/Sankya Santosh bt Tony Wilson/Ashish Sunny 21-8, 21-13). Kozhikode bt Thiruvananthapuram 2-0 (Adarsh A. Binoy bt Adarsh Mahadevan 21-14, 21-16; Adarsh Binoy/ Sreedev Kesavan bt S.Bichu/Amal Britto 21-16, 21-18). Pathanamthitta bt Palakkad 2-0 (Arun George bt Vivek Suresh 21-5, 21-7; Arun George/Kiran George bt Vivek Suresh/Ullas 21-5, 21-10). Girls: Team event: Semifinals: Thiruvananthapuram bt Ernakulam 2-0 (Ashna Roy bt Haritha 21-12,21-19; Ashna Roy/J.K. Malavika bt Haritha/Farah Mather 22-20,21-18).
