NEW DELHI: Although the Centre has agreed to remove the Union Finance Minister's veto power in matters relating to the proposed Goods and Services Tax, the Bharatiya Janata Party is not prepared to give the green signal.
After a meeting of the Finance Ministers of the National Democratic Alliance- ruled States here on Tuesday evening, the BJP leadership decided that each of them personally present his views before the Empowered Committee of State Finance Ministers meeting on Wednesday.
“There is no consensus” was the terse comment made by leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj.
A day before the meeting, the former Union Finance Minister, Yashwant Sinha, had warned: “States do not want to lose their financial powers. Even if some powers are curtailed there must be flexibility.”
