THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Sports Minister, M. Vijayakumar on Monday called upon the sporting community to deliver by matching the efforts of the Government in the promotion of sports and games in the State. Inaugurating the renovation work of the Indoor Recreation Centre (IRC), being undertaken as part of the preparations for the 35 {+t} {+h} National Games, Mr. Vijayakumar outlined the various schemes that have been put in place for the benefit of the sportspersons in the State. “The Government is doing its utmost for the sportspersons of the State and I hope they will deliver the desired results by making good use of the various schemes and the infrastructure facilities that are being established as part of the National Games.” Minister's hope The Ports and Youth Affairs Minister, V. Surendran Pillai, in his presidential address, expressed the hope that the facilities being added to the IRC would help the youth of the entire coastal belt in pursuing their dreams in all indoor disciplines. The IRC facing the famous Shankumughom beach in the city is to the venue for the wushu competitions of the National Games. The renovation work, including the laying of a maple wood floor and sprucing up of other facilities, is estimated to cost Rs. 3.35 crore. The KSSC president, T.P. Dasan and the National Games Secretariat CEO and secretary, Amit Mallick also spoke.
