Girl's uncle accused of giving wrong medicine Her parents have lodged a police complaint BANGALORE: The parents of an engineering student from Hyderabad who died here on Sunday have filed a complaint accusing the girl's uncle, a doctor, of giving her the wrong medicine which is said to have killed her. The Vidyaranyapura police said Smita Venkata Reddy (20), a seventh semester student at the M. Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology, was staying in a private hostel in Yelahanka. On Saturday, she had come to an institute in Malleswaram for coaching for her M. Tech. entrance examination. As it was too late for her to get back to her hostel, she called her father Venkata Reddy, an officer in Agricultural Department in Hyderabad, who asked her to go to her uncle Jnanaprakash's house in Doddabommasandra. On Sunday morning, Ms. Reddy collapsed in the bathroom. She was taken to a private hospital and later to a government hospital where she was declared dead. Mr. Venkata Reddy, who has filed a complaint holding Dr. Jnanaprakash responsible for his daughter's death, said she called him on Sunday morning and complained of pain in the neck and stiffness in the body. He prescribed a medicine, asking her to take it after checking with Dr. Jnanaprakash. Mr. Reddy alleged that Dr. Jnanaprakash had given her a different medicine, with fatal consequences. The Vidyaranyapura police, who have registered a case of murder, are awaiting the autopsy report before proceeding with the complaint.
