Over 500 students showcased their working models on biodiversity and its conservation

BANGALORE: The GE Volunteers, Bangalore chapter, organised their ninth annual science fair for underprivileged children — “Prabodhana – Enlightenment through Science” — here on Saturday as part of their global Community Day celebrations.

Participation

Over 500 students from schools funded by both the Government and non-governmental organisations showcased their working models on biodiversity and its conservation.

Students of Nallurihalli Government School bagged the first prize in the experiment category for their model on rainwater harvesting. Students of Ashraya Neilbagh Kolar Orphanage won the second prize for their experiment on the conversion of hard water into soft water. The display of the principles of electromagnetism by the Sheila Kothavala Institute for the Deaf was placed third in the category.

Biodiversity models

In the “biodiversity model-making” category, students of Turahalli Government School, who displayed the depletion of the ozone layer due to global warming, won the first place. The relevance of e-wastage explained by students of Sheila Kothavala Institute for the Deaf took the second place while the importance of nature and animal conservation shown by the students of Parikrama came in third.

Rewards

The top three models and experiments were rewarded with prizes and certificates. An inter-school quiz competition was also held, which was won by the students of National Association for the Blind.
