Two held on cheating charge

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Sleuths of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) have arrested a police constable and his friend on the charge of cheating people by posing as the Home Minister’s son-in-law and a gunman.

The accused are G. Govindaraju (40), police constable and a resident of Police Quarters at Krishnananda Nagar, and N. Sujendra (27), resident of 14th Cross, R.P.C. Layout in Vijayanagar. They were arrested when they tried to dupe an Assistant Commissioner of Police (Women and Narcotics Squad) of CCB, Lakshman, here on Saturday.

The two allegedly duped people of several lakhs of rupees by promising them seats in educational institutions. They had also collected money from the people by promising them official favours in various departments.

While Govindaraju was attached to the VVIP Security wing of the city police, Sujendra is a PUC dropout. Sujendra used to pose himself as a son-in-law of the Home Minister while Govindaraju claimed that he was the Minister’s gunman, said H.M. Omkaraiah, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Seshadripuram Sub-Division).

Recently, the two met Mr. Lakshman posing as the Minister’s son-in-law and gunman, respectively. Based on the information given by Mr. Lakshman, the police arrested the accused, Mr. Omkaraiah said.
