Either the President or the Prime Minister will be invited to inaugurate the event Documentaries to be made on the glory of the Vijayanagar kingdom BANGALORE: The 500th anniversary of the coronation of Krishnadevaraya will be utilised to recreate the glory of the Vijayanagar empire at Hampi in Bellary district, and the State Government is planning to invite either President Pratibha Patil or Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to inaugurate the three-month-long fete. Speaking to The Hindu, Infrastructure Development and Tourism Minister G. Janardhan Reddy said the celebrations would be launched on November 1 at Hampi. Mr. Reddy, who chaired the first meeting of the Cabinet sub-committee on the subject, said the celebrations would culminate with a three-day function at Hampi from January 27. He said that all States whose areas were under the kingdom would be invited to participate in the programmes. A library and a special museum, which would be of international standards, on the Vijayanagar empire would be established on the 80-acre land given to the Kannada University at Hampi and a statue of Krishnadevaraya would be installed there. Artistes and government representatives from India and abroad would be invited. Documentaries would be made on the kingdom. The Hampi World Heritage Area Management Authority and the Hampi Rejuvenation Committee would make arrangements for the celebrations. The funds required for the function and the other details would be worked out after two more meetings, he added.
