Power surge damages household equipment

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Electrical appliances in a few houses at Kushaiguda were damaged when there was sudden power surge on Tuesday due to gales and thundershowers.

Residents of Vasavi Shivanagar Colony in Kushaiguda complained about heavy losses due to high-voltage power passing through the conductors. Electrical equipment in 10 to 15 houses was reportedly damaged due to the power surge. Damaged equipment included televisions, fans, refrigerators, set-top boxes and in some cases, modems.

“The high voltage supply damaged a television, three fans, a set-top box, and a modem in our house. Total expenditure incurred on repairs and replacements amounted to Rs. 6,600,” complained Lakshman, a resident of the colony. Reason for the voltage surge remains unknown. Divisional Engineer Mohan Reddy informed that the department was unaware of the incident and that they had not received any complaint thus far.
