KOTTAYAM: The Neendoor Grama panchayat has elected a lady autorickshaw driver to its driver’s seat. Sandhya Banerjee, the UDF member representing ward 11 of the panchayat, was elected president of the grama panchayat on Tuesday. She defeated her LDF rival Seena Raju by five votes in the 14 member council. Sandhya, wife of P.R. Banerjee, Parackal House, Kaipuzha, a farm worker, has been active in Kudumbasree movement and took to autorickshaw driving three years ago. Her experience with the non-governmental organisations helped her get a UDF ticket in the last local bodies election. Tuesday’s election will allow her to continue in the post for the next two years.
