Rear Admiral R.K. Dhowan (right) taking over as Chief of Staff, Eastern Naval Command, from Rear Admiral Anurag G. Thapliyal in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. VISAKHAPATNAM: Rear Admiral R.K. Dhowan, hitherto Flag Officer Commanding the Eastern Fleet, on Sunday took over as the new chief of staff of Eastern Naval Command here from Rear Admiral Anurag G. Thapliyal. The latter is posted as Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (operations) at integrated headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy), New Delhi. A specialist in navigation and direction, Dhowan had earlier commanded front line warships, including the missile corvettes and guided missile destroyers. He had also held important staff appointments at the integrated headquarters of Ministry of Defence (Navy), including the deputy director of naval operations and assistant chief of naval staff (policy and plans).
