VISAKHAPATNAM: Four fibre boats were fully damaged and eight partially when high velocity winds overturned them near Vasavannipalem in the city during early hours of Sunday. Fishermen who anchored about 30 boats were shocked when ropes tied by them at the anchorage were severed due to high winds. The incident fuelled the speculation that cyclone had hit the area forcing the fishermen to come out of their houses at Vasavannipalem, Jalari Yendada and Moolapalem villages, seventh ward corporator Perla Vijayachander said. The corporator said water entered the engines and decks of some of the boats making them unfit for voyage and asked the revenue and fisheries departments to pay adequate compensation to the affected fishermen immediately.
