Karthikeyan, Deepika emerge winners

CHENNAI: M. Karthikeyan (Vivekananda Vidyalaya Minjur) and M.C. Deepika, (Vivekananda Vidyalaya Avadi) emerged the winners in the under-9 boys’ and girls’ categories respectively in the Tiruvallur district selection tournament held recently.

The top two in both the under-9 and under-7 sections will now represent the district in the state championship.

Final positions:

Boys: U-7: R. Harikrishnan (Sethu Bhaskara MHSS,Ambattur, 4); S. Jayakumar (Velammal MHSS,Mugappair 3); KV Santhosh (Sethu Bhaskara MHSS, 2.5).

U-9: M. Karthikeyan (Vivekananda Viydalaya, Minjur, 3); A. Chanjeet Vignesh (Vivekananda Vidyalaya,Minjur, 2); S. Ashwin Raam (Sethu Bhaskara MHSS, 2).

Girls:

B. Kiruthika (S.B Vijaya Reddiyar MHSS,3); A. Vaishali (Velammal MHSS, 2); S. Anusha (Sethu Bhaskara MHSS, 2).

U-9: M.C. Deepika (Vivikananda Vidyalaya, Avadi, 3); I. Harivardhini(Preshitha MHSS, 2); G. Rohini (G.K. Shetty Vivekananda, Ambattur, 2).

Chess camp

The Garry Kasparov Chess Academy will conduct a camp from December 23 to January 2, for children between ages five and 14, at the Garry Kasparov Chess Centre.

ICF suffers rare defeat

ICF suffered a rare defeat in the CFA senior division league on Monday when it lost 2-1 to Chennai Customs at the Nehru stadium.

The plucky Customs team went into lead in the 18th minute through A. Samuel and held on till the 68th minute when Dhadaeus equalised for ICF with a penalty.

The spot kick was signalled after Customs defender Arul Mani pulled down Dhadaeus.

Relief short-lived

But the relief for ICF was short-lived as K. Asif found the net nine minutes later give Customs a fine win.

Earlier in the first division, Central Excise and TNEB played out a 1-1 draw.

Murugan scored for Excise and Prabhakaran equalised.
