NEW DELHI: In an engrossing battle between two talented boys from Tamil Nadu, Tejas Ravichandran stunned third seed and former World under-12 champion N. Srinath in 70 moves in the fourth round of the Parsvnath 21st National boys’ (under-13) chess championship at the Bapu Samaj Sewa Kendra here on Monday. In an English Opening, Srinath paid the price for some opening inaccuracies. Tejas attacked relentlessly and eventually overpowered his fancied rival. The victory put Tejas in the company of top seed Vidit Gujarati, Prasanna Rao, M. G. Gahan and Viswanath Prasad in the lead with four points. The results (fourth round): Shalmali Gagare (3) lost to Vidit Gujarati (4); Prasanna Rao (4) bt P.V.S.M. Praveen Kumar (3). Tejas Ravichandran (4) bt N. Srinath (3); Ankit Rajpara (3.5) drew with D. Yashas (3.5). Vaibhav Suri ( 3.5) drew with Pranav Shetty (3.5); Pratik Patil (3.5) drew with Girish Koushik (3.5). Akash Iyer (3) lost to M. G. Gahan (4); Vishwanath Prasad (4) bt Manush Shah (3). Anurag Mhamal (3.5) bt Vinayak Seth (3); Anand Raj ( 2.5) lost to Fenil Shah (3.5).
