Her view: Artist Klera Singh in New Delhi. Self-taught painter and Delhi Association of Russian Compatriots (DARC) president Klera Singh will be exhibiting her painting, ‘Different Strokes’, at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture here beginning this Friday. The show has been organised by the Russian Centre of Science and Culture along with the Roerick Art Club and DARC. This Russian-born painter, who at the age of 18 married an Indian and shifted to Delhi, held the first solo exhibition of her works in Madhya Pradesh. She has also taken part in several painting competitions and won many awards. After shifting to Delhi, where she was selected out of 40 aspirants for a permanent job at All India Radio’s Russian Service, she held another solo exhibition in FORE (Qutub Institutional Area). Over the years she has also participated in several group shows. Explaining her ideas about art and painting, Klera says: “Sometimes there are moments in life when one feels like going beyond the world of words and depicting the joy of different colours created by God. And then the picture is born, which may show landscapes, people, still life in any style, abstract or figurative. This is my effort to show the world God’s love as seen through my eyes.” Her previous works were dedicated to Lord Krishna whom she depicted in all his splendour with the vibrancy of a colourful life. “Krishna taught us how to enjoy the bounty and largess of the great Mother Earth,” says the artist.
