Madurai: Suma of Delhi won the 800m with a new meet record in the 33rd National sports festival for women — Group II, organised by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu and Madurai District Administration, which got underway at the MGR Race Course stadium here on Tuesday. Ambika Sridharan of Kerala finished second, while Pratina Tudu of West Bengal came third. The Tamil Nadu teams made an impressive start in handball, kabaddi and volleyball, while defending champion West Bengal won its first match in volleyball. The results: Handball: Pool ‘D’: TN bt Tripura 14-7. Kabaddi: Pool ‘B’: TN bt Tripura 66-19.
