D.V. Sadananda Gowda BANGALORE: State Bharatiya Janata Party president D.V. Sadananda Gowda on Thursday strongly defended the act of Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa performing “homa” in his chamber in the Vidhana Soudha. Speaking to presspersons here, Mr. Sadananda Gowda unleashed a tirade against the Congress, which had criticised Mr. Yeddyurappa for performing the elaborate “homa” in his official chamber. Indian tradition“We are Indians, and we have performed all these rituals according to the Indian tradition. The puja was conducted within the four walls [of the chamber] and not on the lawns of the Vidhana Soudha. If the Opposition Congress does not believe in Indian tradition, then they are unfit to live in this country,” he remarked. He asked Congress leaders to focus on functioning as an effective Opposition party by taking up pro-people issues instead of harping on non-issues. ‘Pressure on Governor’Mr. Sadananda Gowda also charged the Congress with bringing pressure on Governor Rameshwar Thakur to advance the schedule for the trust vote to be sought by the Chief Minister. Hectic lobbying has started in the BJP for ministerial posts with Mr. Yeddyurappa set to fill the party’s slots in the Ministry after securing the trust vote. In the 34-member ministry, the BJP has a share of 16 Ministers. Of these, five members were sworn in on November 12. New facesThose who were not made Ministers in the earlier government are bringing pressure on the party leadership to include them in the Ministry since there are indications that the party is considering accommodating some new faces. Some of the aspirants have gone to Delhi to appeal to the party’s central leaders to accommodate them in the Ministry. Lobbying has also begun for nominations to the Legislative Council. Of the five seats that are vacant, the BJP is trying to get three. These vacancies have to be filled through nominations.
