Joint panel to look into educational needs of Telugus living outside State

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: A joint House committee of the Legislature will be formed soon to go into the educational needs of the Telugu-speaking people living outside A.P. and suggest means to solve problems faced by them.

Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy informed the Legislative Council on Wednesday that he had already addressed a letter to Assembly Speaker K. R. Suresh Reddy, seeking to constitute such a committee.

He requested Council Chairman A. Chakrapani to appoint MLCs also on the committee in consultation with the Speaker.

Intervening during question time when B. Kamalaker Rao (Congress) sought a comprehensive policy to provide educational facilities to Telugus in other States, Dr. Reddy said: “The government has taken the initiative from its side; now, the ball is in your court.”

Once the joint House Committee submitted its report with recommendations, necessary steps would be taken by the government.

Earlier, School Education Minister C. Damodar Rajanarsimha said the government would draft a comprehensive policy “in two months” to meet the educational needs of the Telugu-speaking people living outside the State.
