NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has directed the Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi not to put the Delhi Government and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) teachers on duty for revision of electoral rolls during the school hours since this affects the children’s studies.
A Division Bench comprising Justice M.K. Sharma and Justice R.S. Sodhi issued the direction on a public interest litigation (PIL) by a non-government organisation, Social Jurist.
Counsel for the petitioner, Ashok Aggarwal, submitted that the Chief Electoral Officer had put 8,000 Delhi Government teachers and 7,000 of the MCD on the job of revising the electoral rolls during school hours. This was affecting the children’s studies,” the petitioner added.
The revision of the electoral rolls has been under way since November 1 and will end on November 25.
