Kingfisher First wins close contest

NEW DELHI: Kingfisher First scored a thrilling 6-5 victory over Elevation in a Pool ‘A’ match of the Maharaja Hari Singh Memorial Cup at the Jaipur Polo ground here on Thursday. With the scores tied at 5-5, Gaurav Sahgal scored the winner in the dying moments.

Kingfisher First overcame a 0-3 deficit to come back into the match. Ubjara Andrade, the only 7-handicapper in the tournament, scored two of those goals while Vicky Nihalani scored the other.

Kingfisher First hit back in the third chukker through Dhurvpal Godara and then Sahgal scored to make it 2-3. Dhruvpal scored two goals in the fourth chukker to put his team in the lead.

The final chukker saw Andrade scoring his second goal to restore parity. Sameer Suhaag made it 5-4 for Kingfisher with Andrade once again levelling the scores for Elevation before Sahgal clinched the winner.
