CMDA clears Master Plan suggestions

A. Srivathsan

CHENNAI: The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority’s Board of Authority has cleared the master plan recommendations and has forwarded it to the Government for final consent.

The CMDA had constituted seven committees to review public and professional suggestions on the master plan. The recommendations of the various committees were placed at the authority meeting. According to a CMDA source, said many recommendations were accepted, but a few, perceived to be radical and controversial, were dropped.

Modifications to building rules were extensively discussed and the rules pertaining to special and multi-storied buildings were revised. The redrafted master plan will be shortly sent to the government and after consultations with various departments, the government will give its consent and the master plan will be notified. The first master plan for Chennai was prepared in 1975. The second draft master plan was published after 31 years on April 11. Since then the plan has been kept open for public consultation and feedback.
