Union seeks interim relief

CHENNAI: The Southern Railway Mazdoor Union has urged the Sixth Pay commission to sanction interim relief of Rs.1,000 to Central Government employees pending its final recommendations.

SRMU general secretary N. Kanniah told The Hindu on Friday that the union had submitted a memorandum to the Commission, demanding a minimum pay scale of Rs.10,000 per month for Group D employees and Rs.13,000 for Group C employees.

The Commission, which was notified on October 5, 2006, has been directed to submit its report within 18 months.
