KOLLAM: The house of the Kerala Congress(B) leader and Pathanapuram MLA K.B. Ganesh Kumar came under attack in the early hours of Thursday. The house currently functions as his office. The police said that a group of persons threw stones at the house. Windowpanes and a van parked in front of the house were damaged. The MLA was at the house till 9 p.m. on Wednesday. The attack was around 2 a.m. on Thursday. A hartal from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. was observed by the UDF in Pathanapuram taluk on Thursday in protest against the attack. Mr. Ganesh Kumar alleged that the CPI(M) was behind the attack. He said that since the time he had been exposing the involvement of the CPI(M) in the Avaneeshwaram liquor tragedy, he had been targeted by that party. Several UDF leaders arrived at the house on hearing the news. Tension erupted there when a group of CPI(M) leaders also arrived to see the house. UDF activists blocked the CPI(M) leaders. The police intervened following which the CPI(M) leaders left. In the evening, Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy arrived there and addressed a public meeting held in protest against the attack. In a statement, CPI(M) district secretary K. Rajagopal denied the involvement of the parry the attack. He said the attack appeared to be stage-managed by Mr. Ganesh Kumar himself. CPI district secretary Prakash Babu too echoed the allegation. Attack condemnedSpecial Correspondent writes from Thiruvananthapuram: The UDF on Thursday condemned the attack on Mr. Ganesh Kumar’s residence. UDF convener P.P. Thankachan in a statement here on Thursday alleged that activists of the CPI(M) and the DYFI were responsible for the attack. Kerala Congress (M) leader K.M. Mani, addressing a press conference, said the attack was the latest evidence that the law and order situation in the State was in a bad shape owing to the free hand that the CPI (M) supporters had in running police stations.
