Data being collected about accommodation Rs. 1 crore sanctioned, Rs. 25 lakh released Udupi: Udupi District Kannada Sahitya Parishath president U.C. Holla said on Saturday that the parishath was taking steps for the smooth conduct of the 74th All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelan to be held here from December 12 to 15. Speaking at a preparatory meeting of the sammelan at the Deputy Commissioner’s office here, Mr. Holla said that various committees formed by the parishath were systematically carrying out their work. To ensure proper lodging facilities for the delegates of the sammelan, the parishath had gathered information about hotels and the rooms available, marriage halls and other halls in the city. The production of handbags, badges and other items were in final stages of approval. The government departments would be providing tableaux for the procession of the sammelan. He had discussed about the parking facilities for the sammelan with the Regional Transport Officer. As many as 500 cooks had been finalised for cooking food for the sammelan. The Krishna Math, the Pejawar Math and the Puttige Math had agreed to provide vessels and other equipment for preparation of food. Nearly 3,000 NSS volunteers serve food for the delegates. Nearly 500 volunteers from the Bharat Seva Dal would help in the smooth conduct of the sammelan. Nearly 600 bookstalls would be put up at the venue of the sammelan, Mr. Holla said. MLA K. Raghupati Bhat said the State Government had sanctioned Rs. 1 crore for the sammelan in its budget. Of this, Rs. 1 crore, Rs. 25 lakh had been released. All the major roads in Udupi city would be repaired within the first week of December for the sammelan. Chairman of the Sammelan Tourism Promotion Committee, Nagaraj Hebbar said 10 stalls focusing on the tourism spots of Udupi district would be set up. Udupi Zilla Panchayat vice-president Sujatha Vasudeva, member of the Kannada Development Authority Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, Udupi CMC Commissioner Gokuldas Nayak, and Principal of MGM Pre-University College Arun Kumar were present.
