COIMBATORE: The Joint Action Council of the Coimbatore and Erode District Textile Mill Workers’ Unions has sought 15 per cent to 35 per cent bonus for mill workers in these districts. A meeting of the council was held here on Tuesday. The council demanded 15 per cent to 35 per cent bonus for workers in the C and D group mills (larger units). “This bonus should be disbursed to all categories of workers – permanent and non-permanent,” said K.G. Jaganathan, secretary of the council. The council demanded 35 per cent bonus for workers in the smaller mills (A and B category). Mr. Jaganathan said that because of market fluctuations and rupee appreciation, probably some mills were not doing well for the last few months. “ No mill is running on loss,” he added. The unions demanded that settlements should be reached at the mills and bonus disbursed by October 25. The council would declare the next course of action if any unit did not disburse bonus by then. A demonstration would be held here on October 17 to seek the speedy settlement of the bonus issue in the mills.
