BERHAMPUR: Tara Tarini Development Board (TTDB) flagged off a ‘chariot’ on Monday from the hill shrine to get people of the State involved so that the project of construction of the new temple on hill-top could be completed.

The TTDB is getting the new temple constructed as per the traditional ‘Rekha’ style of temple architecture of ancient Orissa.

The cost of the temple project is around Rs. 2.5 crores. The TTDB has already spent over Rs. 1.25 crores on the project.

According to Pramod Panda, secretary of the TTDB, through the ‘chariot’, the TTDB wants to make people of Orissa conscious about the developmental works taken up at the hill shrine.

The chariot carries a model of the hill shrine and its proposed new temple.

The recent efforts to make it a major tourist spot of the State have been mentioned on the chariot and instructions have been given on direct payment of donations to the TTDB.

A sealed hundi has been placed on the chariot for collection of donations from devotees.

Handover of hotel

The chariot first travels through villages and townships of Ganjam district. Later, it will traverse through other areas of the State. Meanwhile, the State tourism department has decided to hand over the ‘Panthanivas’ hotel near the shrine to TTDB.

At a high-level meeting held in Bhubaneswar on September 14, which was attended by State Law Minister Biswabhusan Harichandan and State Tourism Minister Debi Mishra, it was decided not to lease out any government land near the hill shrine to any private party.

The step is being taken to keep the beauty of the area intact.

Recently land mafia has started taking interest in the land as this hill shrine is getting developed as a tourism resort.

The revenue officials have also been directed to prepare a detailed status report of the land donated to the hill shrine in different parts of the State. The State tourism department is also preparing a separate master-plan for development of the hill shrine in accordance with the developmental plans of TTDB.
