CPI workers disrupt train services

Protest against alleged assault on party leader by RSPF jawans

BHUBANESWAR: Train services across Orissa were affected following a ‘rail roko’ organised by activists of Communist Party of India (CPI) in protest against the alleged assault of their leaders by personnel of Railway Special Protection Force.

Several long-distance trains were stranded at different places as CPI workers squatted on railway tracks at places such as Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur, Berhampur and Rourkela. The train movement was affected from morning to noon.

CPI leader Dibakar Nayak was allegedly assaulted by RSPF jawans and TTE at Bhubaneswar Railway Station on Saturday. Following the incident, CPI workers staged demonstration and demanded action against RSPF jawans.

Subsequently, the ‘culprits’ were identified in test identification parade. But CPI workers accused that no action was taken against security personnel and they were let off.

A two-member delegation of the party on Monday submitted a memorandum to Railway Minister Lalu Prasad through the Bhubaneswar Station Manager, demanding dismissal of the railway personnel involved in the assault.

Owing to the bandh, the Puri New Delhi Neelachal Express, Guwahati-Bangalore Express, Sambalpur-Puri Intercity Express Jodhpur-Puri Express, Falknama Express and Kharagpur-Puri passenger were detained at Bhubaneswar, while Visakha Express at Berhampur, Rourkela-Puri passenger at Rengali, Titlagarh-Jharsuguda passenger at Baragarh were halted for around an hour.
