Orissa
Several teams have gone to various places in search of him CUTTACK: The ‘arrest DGP’ mission of the Cuttack police is still on, even as a court in Rajasthan was scheduled to hear a bail application of the suspended Orissa DGP rank officer B.B. Mahanti. The Cuttack police in the meantime have informed its Rajasthan counterpart twice that the NBW issued against the senior IPS officer could not be executed as Mahanti is still ‘untraceable’. “We have intimated the Rajasthan police that despite our best efforts, Mahanti is untraceable and hence the NBW against him (Mahanti) could not be executed,” said Cuttack Superintendent of Police S.K. Priyadarshi. Ever since the Rajasthan police requested the Cuttack Collector to execute the NBW against Mahanti last month, the city police are on their toes to arrest him. But, due to their pre-occupation for the ongoing puja season in the city, the district police are now finding it extremely difficult to comply with the request of the Rajasthan police. For quite some time Priyadarshi’s one-point programme was to run after the elusive DGP to nab him. “Since I am legally bound to do so, the mission is on to uphold the law of the land,” Mr. Priyadarshi said as he is now completely engrossed in maintaining the law and order of the city for the puja season. Several teams of the district police have in the meantime gone to places like Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Kolkata, New Delhi, Jaipur and Vaishnodevi in search of Mahanti but the police have not made any breakthrough.
